In a formal statement, GAF noted that “the first batch of general releases after the 5-year suspension will commence in May 2025.” This batch includes members of the 1995 and 1996 year groups who have completed 30 years of service or reached the compulsory retirement age, in accordance with the Armed Forces Regulations.

GAF acknowledged the “sacrifices, professionalism and loyalty” exhibited by the outgoing soldiers throughout their careers. These officers, the statement added, served “under very challenging conditions” and played a vital role in preserving the nation's sovereignty and peace.

Their international contributions were also highlighted, particularly their role in “numerous international peacekeeping missions” under the United Nations and African Union, which, GAF said, “enhanced our dear nation's reputation.”
