Addressing a delegation of NPP constituency organisers from the Greater Accra Region at his residence, the former president encouraged the group to embrace a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
1
The delegation was led by Prince Obeng, a leading figure in the party and the Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the NPP.
2
“Political parties win or lose elections. Yes, we have lost an election. But I know we can come back,” Akufo-Addo stated, acknowledging the party’s recent setback at the polls.
3
He continued with a rallying call: “We should stop feeling sorry for ourselves. Let’s pick ourselves up, reorganise, and go forward as one.”
4
The former president’s words, which Prince Obeng relayed after the meeting, aimed to reignite optimism and unity among the party base. Akufo-Addo added, “We should behave like we believe we can win back the trust of the people for 2028.”
5
The courtesy call formed part of wider internal engagements within the NPP, particularly as the party considers key amendments to its constitution. The visiting organisers appealed to the former president to lend his influence to ensure that the roles and responsibilities of constituency organisers are clearly defined in the party’s legal framework.
6
In addition to structural concerns, the group voiced unease over what they claimed were attempts by the current administration to meddle in the affairs of the judiciary. Specifically, they alleged a plan to either suspend or remove the Chief Justice—an action they believe could undermine critical constitutional protections, including presidential term limits.
7
Although Akufo-Addo did not directly comment on these claims during the meeting, he stayed focused on the broader message of restoring unity and preparing the party for a return to political power.
8
Members of the delegation described the former president’s words as “profound and inspiring,” welcoming his encouragement as timely and necessary.
9
The engagement comes at a crucial juncture for the NPP, as the party regroups and looks to craft a winning strategy for the next electoral cycle following its recent defeat.
