1 min readPresident John Dramani Mahama has affirmed his administration’s commitment to the ongoing battle against illegal mining, stressing that the fight, while difficult, will not be abandoned.

Speaking during the May Day celebrations at the Black Star Square on Thursday, May 1, the President admitted that the complexity of the galamsey menace means it cannot be eradicated within a short timeframe, but assured Ghanaians that the government remains resolute.

“The fight against galamsey is a complex one, and when I was vying for the presidency, I did not kid myself that when I come into office, I will win that fight in four months, yet we will not give up,” President Mahama stated.

He praised the Ghana Armed Forces and other security services for their continued dedication and noted that tangible progress is being made in curbing the illegal activity.

“Our gallant men of the Armed Forces and security services are up to the fight, and we will continue to score successes against the selfish companies and individuals who are destroying our forests and polluting our water bodies,” he said.

Underscoring his determination to see the fight through, the President declared, “As far as the fight against galamsey is concerned, I say Aluta Continua.”

His comments come at a time when concerns about the environmental and social toll of illegal mining remain high, especially in communities affected by water pollution and land degradation.
