Carragher, a lifelong Liverpool supporter and club legend, expressed frustration at the prospect of Alexander-Arnold—who rose through the ranks at Anfield to become one of the world’s best right-backs—departing at the height of his career.

Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, Carragher questioned the logic behind the move, especially with Liverpool entering a promising new chapter under incoming manager Arne Slot.
2
He lamented that the homegrown star could walk away from a resurgent team, potentially joining European giants Real Madrid if the swirling rumours prove true.

"I'm not angry. I'm more just disappointed that as a local player, he doesn't think Liverpool's enough when it's winning. We've had players in the past who've left, say, Steve McManaman, Michael Owen – Steven Gerrard almost left – but that was because they were playing for Liverpool teams that weren't as good as this Liverpool team.

Now, this Liverpool team is arguably one of the best five or six teams in Europe, and we've just won a Premier League title," Carragher said while speaking on Sky Sports.

He continued, "Liverpool could be on the verge of something really special over the next five or six years with the new manager. So for me, as a local player, if I was in that position – which I never was, I never had teams of the caliber of Real Madrid and Barcelona asking for me – but if I was in that position for Liverpool, I would put them ahead."

Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

During his time at Anfield, the defender made 352 appearances, scored 23 goals, and provided 92 assists.

He also enjoyed a highly successful spell with the club, winning eight major trophies, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
