Presidential staffer for the Black Star Experience initiative, Rex Omar, has commended Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae for proudly promoting Ghanaian music at the globally recognised Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

In an interview on JoyPrime TV, the veteran musician described Amaarae’s April 13 performance as a patriotic gesture that reflects the spirit behind the Black Star Experience — an initiative aimed at encouraging Ghanaians to project the country’s identity and values on the world stage.

“Amaarae choosing to perform Ghanaian songs at Coachella shows that we shouldn’t always think about what the country can do for us. Ask yourself, what can you do to promote the country? You are the Black Star represented on the Ghana flag,” Rex Omar stated.

He noted that her performance, which featured songs by local acts such as Eazzy, Joey B, La Meme Gang, and the Asakaa Boys, goes beyond entertainment and serves as a symbol of cultural pride and national representation.

Highlighting the influence of creatives in shaping Ghana’s global image, Rex Omar called on Ghanaians, especially the youth, to embrace their role as ambassadors of the nation, urging them to be intentional in showcasing Ghanaian music, fashion, food, and lifestyle.

“Every Ghanaian must see themselves as part of Ghana’s story. Whether it’s through music, social media, or your personal choices, ask yourself, am I being the Black Star today?” he added.
