Born Nana Barima Kwaku Duah on May 6, 1950, the Asantehene is widely regarded as the most influential traditional ruler in Ghana.

He is the third son and youngest of five children born to Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II and Nana Kwame Boakye-Dankwa.

His siblings include the late Nana Ama Konadu, who served as the 14th Asantehemaa, the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Barima Kwabena Poku, and Barima Akwasi Prempeh.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II ascended to the Golden Stool on April 26, 1999, becoming the 16th occupant and continuing the rich legacy of the Ashanti Kingdom. He recently celebrated the 26th anniversary of his enstoolment.
