1 min readA swift intervention by the Suhum Municipal Fire Station on Friday prevented what could have been a catastrophic fuel explosion, following an accident involving a DAF petrol tanker at Neefio along the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

The fire crew, led by STNOII Addo Emmanuel, responded to a distress call at 1408 hours and arrived at the scene within eight minutes. Upon arrival, they found the tanker overturned in a ditch, with petrol actively leaking from the container.

Firefighters immediately deployed foam concentrate and hose lines to suppress flammable vapours and cool the tanker, conducting repeated cooling intervals every 15 minutes to maintain control over the volatile situation.

Preliminary information gathered at the scene indicated that the accident occurred after the vehicle’s front tire burst, causing the driver—en route from Tema to Kumasi—to lose control and veer off the highway.
