2 mins readTwo women who appeared in a widely circulated video showing them in captivity have been rescued following a coordinated international effort involving the Ghana Police Service, the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and the Nigeria Police Force.

The disturbing footage of the victims, which quickly spread across social media, sparked national outrage and urgent calls for their rescue.

Following swift collaboration between Ghanaian and Nigerian security agencies, eight individuals suspected of being involved in the kidnapping were arrested at various locations in both countries. Security officials worked in concert to trace the victims’ whereabouts and apprehend those responsible.

A statement from the Ghana Police confirmed the successful rescue mission and arrests, noting that additional information would be released as investigations continue to unfold.

“The Ghana Police Service extends its heartfelt gratitude to the National Signals Bureau and the Nigeria Police Force for their invaluable support and cooperation in both the rescue and arrest operations,” the statement read.

One of the victims, Ama Serwaa Konadu—a well-known hairdresser and event decorator based in Asiakwa, in the Eastern Region's Abuakwa South Municipality—was allegedly abducted on Tuesday, April 22, after leaving home for work. The following day, her captors sent disturbing videos to her family via her own phone. The footage showed her naked and being assaulted with a machete.

The kidnappers claimed to have taken her to Nigeria and demanded a ransom of GH₵500,000 for her release. Her family promptly reported the incident to the Ghana Police and other security bodies, submitting the videos as evidence to aid the investigation.
