The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has moved to deny claims suggesting that its staff were denied their 2025 rent allowance.

The rumours started circulating on social media a few days ago, and in response, the nation’s firefighters have issued a statement denying the claims.

The statement, dated August 23 and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Divisional Officer Emmanuel Bonney, urged the public to disregard the rumours, describing them as “false and unfounded”.

“Management wishes to state categorically that the information is false and unfounded, as the last tranche of the full payment of the 2025 rent allowance was effected in April 2026,” part of the statement said.

It explained that the last tranche of the 2025 allowance was paid in April this year, while the tranche for this year’s allowance will be paid soon.

“With regards to the 2026 rent allowance, we wish to inform all personnel that a committee is in place to ensure the mechanisation takes effect soon,” it added.

The GNFS commended its staff for their patience, assuring them of its commitment to ensuring their welfare.

“Management appreciates the patience of personnel and would like to reassure them of its commitment in addressing all issues of welfare including compensation and will continue to operate an open-door policy of being transparent with information,” the statement said.

The GNFS stressed that the public should “disregard the false report and refrain from further circulating the misinformation”.

About rent allowance

The GNFS rent allowance is a welfare benefit provided to personnel to support housing costs. The 2025 allowance was fully paid, with the final tranche disbursed in April 2026, and the 2026 allowance is being mechanised to ensure monthly payments alongside salaries.
