Adamus Resources Limited has welcomed the government’s decision to allow the company to resolve the issues surrounding its operations.

According to a press statement issued by the company on Friday, the meeting with the government represents a significant and constructive step forward in securing the future of the Adamus mine and safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders connected to it.

As part of discussions aimed at restoring Adamus to a sustainable path, the company, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Minerals Commission will prepare a one-year action plan.

A six-member management team, comprising three representatives from Adamus and three from Government, will supervise the implementation of this turnaround programme.

“Adamus Resources Limited welcomes the decision by the Government of Ghana to provide a pathway for the resolution of the issues surrounding the company and to support efforts to restore the mine to sustainable operations.

“The company considers the outcome of the meeting at the Presidency a significant and constructive step forward in protecting the future of the Adamus mine, its employees, contractors, suppliers, host communities and the many other stakeholders whose livelihoods and interests are connected to the operation.

“Under the agreed framework, Adamus Resources Limited, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission will work together to develop a twelve-month roadmap for turning around the mine,” part of the statement read.

Adamus Resources Limited is a major gold producer in the Western Region, with more than three thousand employees.

Last year, rigorous exercise conducted by the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry revealed that nine hundred and seven (907) out of one thousand, two hundred and seventy-eight (1,278) licenses reviewed by the Review Committee were fraught with irregularities, with three hundred and sixteen (316) meeting the required standards.

The committee revoked the remaining fifty-five (55) licenses.The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources noted: “Additionally, 907 out of 1,278 licenses are now under review for possible revocation due to irregularities identified by the Small-Scale Mining Review Committee.”

According to the statement, the new deadline is to allow affected small-scale miners to provide additional evidence to support the legitimacy of their licenses. The Lands Ministry has also directed the Minerals Commission to submit reasons that led to lapses in the licensing process.

“The Honourable Minister constituted a 3-Member Committee to receive petitions from affected license holders, if any, and/or to allow them to provide further and better particulars in support of their claim to the licenses.

“Similarly, the Minerals Commission is expected to submit any explanations for lapses identified in the processing of the licences to the Committee.
