The Ghana Education Service (GES) has asked newly promoted teachers to disregard requests to submit application letters, promotion letters and other documents for the processing of salary adjustments to reflect their new ranks.
The Service said it had received concerns from some newly promoted teachers who claimed they had been directed by some regions and districts to submit the documents.
In a statement dated August 22 and signed by the Head of Public Relations, GES said the practice was not in line with its existing procedures.
“Teachers who are promoted to new ranks are usually placed automatically on the appropriate salary scale to reflect the new ranks. This existing practice has not changed,” the statement said.
It therefore urged teachers not to submit any documents for salary adjustments.
“Teachers are, therefore, to ignore the request to submit any documents for salary adjustments,” GES stated.
The Service also called for calm among teachers as it works to address the issue with the affected regions and districts.
“Management calls for calm among teachers as it engages the few regions and districts that are allegedly requesting such documents,” it added.
