Ghanaian musician King Ayisoba recently shared a memorable encounter with the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, which occurred in 2020.
The meeting was sparked by a line in one of Ayisoba's songs where he referenced Rawlings and Kwame Nkrumah as smokers.
In an interview with Code Micky, Ayisoba recounted, “Rawlings had a great fondness for me. In my song ‘I Want to See You, My Father,’ I included a line about Rawlings smoking, as well as Nkrumah.
This choice led to my brother, Thousand Can Die, who was a soldier, facilitating a meeting with Rawlings.”
He went on to describe the encounter, noting that the president was pleased to meet him and took an interest in the lyrics of his song.
“When I met Rawlings, he asked if I had written ‘I Want to See You, My Father,’ and he had seen a video of me mentioning his smoking. He found it amusing, and we ended up taking pictures and videos together.”
Ayisoba attributes his musical success to his genuine and authentic approach.
