The government has responded to the Minority’s allegations that Ghanaian diplomatic passports are being sold for between US$10,000 and US$50,000.
The Minority raised the issue in Parliament on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The MP for Damongo and Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Abu Jinapor, said he had evidence that diplomatic passports were being sold for between US$10,000 and US$50,000 and called for an investigation.
Following the allegations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has interdicted the Director of Passports, Yahaya Amantana Mahama.
A report by Citi News indicates that the interdiction is intended to allow the government to investigate the allegations and establish the facts, including identifying any officials who may have been involved in the alleged transactions.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding that the government make public the list of beneficiaries of diplomatic and service passports issued since 2025, amid allegations that the travel documents have been given to hundreds of people who do not qualify for them.
The party is also seeking details of the official positions held by the beneficiaries, the criteria used to determine their eligibility and the officials who authorised the issuance of the passports.
According to the NPP, making the information public would help ensure transparency and accountability in the issuance and management of diplomatic and service passports.
