The Ghana Education Service (GES) has rebuffed reports suggesting a first-year student of Ghana National College had died due to the negligence of a housemistress at the school.
Responding to the claims, GES clarified that the flier being circulated is old and the death of that particular student occurred in 2018.
In a Facebook post, the Service said no student had died at the school recently and urged the public to disregard reports seeking to revive the incident.
The education regulatory body condemned perpetrators of wanting to reopen the painful wound of the bereaved family and unfairly damage the reputation of teachers, housemistresses and the school.
“No student has passed away at Ghana National College. This particular reported demise occurred in 2018,” the post said.
It further cautioned against the spread of information that could cause distress to the affected family and undermine public confidence in the school.
GES has therefore called on the public to disregard the reports and avoid sharing misleading information about the school.
According to reports, a first-year student of the school, identified as Ruby Teiko, died after reportedly experiencing severe breathing difficulties during a dormitory inspection at the school’s Elsie Dadzie Hall, with her family alleging that she was made to wait for the exercise to end before receiving assistance.
