Manchester City face an anxious wait over Erling Haaland’s fitness ahead of their Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed.
The prolific striker, who has scored 27 goals across all competitions this season, sustained a knee injury during City's 4-0 win over Newcastle on February 15. As a result, he was absent from Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool, which left City in fourth place with 44 points.
"Tonight we will know after training," Guardiola told reporters on Tuesday of Haaland's prospects of playing against Spurs. "I hope so, but we don't know yet. He feels better but we will see tomorrow."
Despite Manchester City’s struggles this season, Pep Guardiola insists that rebuilding the squad will not be the toughest challenge of his career. He emphasized that he has successfully revamped the team multiple times over the past nine years.
Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, City trail leaders Liverpool by 20 points and have suffered early eliminations from both the Carabao Cup and the Champions League. This season, they have already recorded eight league defeats—matching their total losses from the previous two seasons combined.
To reinforce the squad, City invested £180 million ($223 million) in the January transfer window, bringing in Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov. With an average age of 21.6 years, these young talents are expected to play a crucial role in the next chapter of Guardiola’s project.
