Players are mostly penalised when they react out of order; however, sources suggest that Real Madrid does not intend to punish its left winger for lashing out during El Clásico on October 26.
He was substituted at the 72nd minute of the La Liga, where Real Madrid won 2-1 over Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu. The substitution, which clearly infuriated the Brazilian prodigy, made him walk off the pitch, pass by the bench, including coach Xabi Alonso, and head straight for the tunnel while the match was still ongoing.
Vinícius’ actions have reportedly strained his relationship with Xabi, as some reports suggest that while passing by Alonso, he muttered, “Always me”.
The duo are expected to make up in a face-to-face conversation at Real Madrid’s training on Wednesday.
He later returned after the final whistle, where he took part in a tussle with some Barcelona players, following which he received a yellow card.
Although at the executive level the club has opted not to penalise Vinícius for what happened, Coach Alonso is free to make technical decisions as he sees fit, sources said.
ESPN reports that the club’s spokesperson has refused to make public what disciplinary measures they are likely to take against Vini Jr, citing that it remains internal.
Vinícius -- the 2024 Men's Ballon d'Or runner-up and FIFA's The Best winner -- has been left out of the starting XI three times by Alonso so far this season.
Talks over a new contract for the star forward have made no progress in recent months, with his current deal due to expire in 2027.
Meanwhile, following his fiery outburst, some people defended him while others slammed him for his actions.
Tony Kros, his former teammate, defended his actions during his podcast, saying, “When you play an exceptional game, especially in a match like this, you’re not happy to be taken off”. Others also cautioned him to check his emotions, criticising his behaviour as “disrespectful” and warned it could “negatively impact his prestige at Real Madrid”
Vinícius Júnior has lost his cool on the pitch on several occasions. On September 24 this year, Vini clashed with Levante captain Unai Elgezabal during a Real Madrid match after a foul on Kylian Mbappé led to a penalty.
According to reports, while Mbappe prepared to take the penalty spot, Vinícius reportedly spoke to Elgezabal and placed a hand on his neck. Infuriated by whatever Vini said, Elgezabal reacted angrily and later accused Vinícius of showing “a lack of respect”, saying, “Enough is enough.
Meanwhile, when Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid, reports surfaced that Vini and the French prodigy were not on the very best of terms as far as their relationship was concerned.
However, Kylian Mbappé has said he can’t picture Real Madrid without his teammate Vinícius Júnior, even though some people think it might be hard for both of them to play together in the same attack.
When Mbappé moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Madrid last summer, rumours began that Vinícius might leave the club. There was even reported interest from Saudi Arabia. However, ESPN has said that Vinícius is now more likely to sign a new contract with Real Madrid.
Mbappé talked about his bond with Vinícius during a detailed interview on Spanish TV station La Sexta on Sunday. It was his first personal interview since joining Real Madrid.
"The relationship [with Vini] is good," Mbappé said. "It's normal that people want to talk about us, because we're two famous players who can make a difference, but I came to Real Madrid with the idea of playing with Vini.
"I can't imagine Madrid without Vini. I always had the idea of playing with him. We play well together. We can always do better, the fans always expect more of us, and it's normal, but I think we play well together and now at this stage of the season, we're going to try to help Madrid as much as we can."
Later in subsequent months, Mbappe addressed the unsettling concerns among fans who still believed the duo had a strained relationship.
But he explained that they are now much better this year, and they have gotten to know each other well.
"Two famous players in the same team -- that sells newspapers," Mbappé said, when asked about Vinícius. "But the truth is, I have a very good relationship with Vinicius. It's much better this year, because we know each other better," he said
