Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has finally addressed speculation surrounding the salary of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.
The clarification follows reports that the Portuguese tactician was earning a monthly salary of US$100,000.
However, dispelling the reports and putting months of speculation to rest, Mr Adams stated that the figures being circulated do not reflect the coach’s actual remuneration. However, Carlos receives &80,000 a month.
"Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that had been speculated," Kofi Adams stated while speaking in an interview on 3FM Sunrise.
In late April, the Sports Ministry dispelled rumours that Carlos Queiroz was earning a monthly salary of $100,000.
The rumours started shortly after his unveiling, when several media reports began to circulate that he was taking home $100k.
Disputing the rumour, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, explained that “it’s not up to $100,000”.
At the time, he explained that discussions on the coach’s remuneration are still ongoing between his outfit and relevant stakeholders, adding that the final figure has yet to be determined.
“I will check the figures [of his salary] because we have not finalised and signed the full contract and everything, so I cannot give the exact figure, but it’s not up to $100,000.
"The condition we agreed was that we were going for a short-term contract, maximum four months, for the period of the World Cup, but the performance would determine any further agreement,” Mr Adams added.
Carlos takes over from former Dutch talent coach Otto Addo, who was dismissed after a poor run of form leading to defeats against Austria and Germany in the last international friendlies played on March 27 and Monday, March 30, respectively.
The 73-year-old was appointed following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March, with the immediate task of leading Ghana at the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.
