Real Madrid academy talent César Palacios is set to return to Spain for further assessment after tearing his ACL during the club's preseason tour in the United States, sources informed ESPN.
The 19-year-old midfielder sustained the injury just five minutes into his first-team debut in a 1-0 loss to AC Milan at Chicago's Soldier Field on Wednesday night.
Subsequent examinations confirmed the severity of Palacios' injury, leading the club's medical team to arrange for his immediate return to Madrid to undergo surgery.
Palacios, regarded as one of Real Madrid's most promising young players, had recently attracted interest from Athletic Club.
Additionally, Álvaro Rodríguez suffered an ankle sprain during the defeat to Milan.
The medical team is currently considering whether to send Rodríguez back to Spain along with Palacios, ESPN has learned.
Real Madrid is scheduled to play Clásico rivals Barcelona in the second match of their preseason tour on Saturday in New Jersey.
