John Boadu has been elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), defeating former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former National Chairman Paul Afoko in the party’s national executive elections.
The former NPP General Secretary secured 2,888 votes at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Mr Agyarko followed with 2,048 votes, while Mr Afoko polled 490 votes.
Mr Boadu’s victory came after a last-minute deal with Sammy Crabbe, who withdrew from the race and threw his support behind the former General Secretary.
Mr Crabbe announced his decision as voting got underway on Saturday, calling on his supporters to back Mr Boadu.
Mr Boadu had been considered one of the frontrunners in the chairmanship race, having featured prominently in several pre-election surveys.
The elections, which attracted more than 7,000 delegates, were held to elect officers to nine national executive positions as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, Justin Frimpong Kodua retained his position as General Secretary after securing 4,486 votes.
He was followed by former Ngleshie Amanfro MP Sylvester Tetteh, who polled 1,340 votes. Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena secured 162 and 126 votes, respectively.
In the National Youth Organiser race, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu emerged victorious with 1,550 votes.
He defeated Alfred Kumi Ababio, who polled 25 votes; Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, 44; Michael Osei Boateng, 78; Clement Opoku Gyamfi, 631; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, the then Deputy National Youth Organiser, who secured 46 votes.
The newly elected executives are expected to lead the party as it begins preparations towards the 2028 general elections.
