EU, Member States pledge €800m for Ghana’s Energy, Health, and Transport sectors

Ghana’s energy, health, and transport sectors are set to benefit from a commitment of more than €800 million, approximately GH¢13 billion from the European Union (EU) and its member states, as parts of the Global Gateway initiative.According to the EU Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Irchad Razaaly, €55 million of the fund will be designated to support local vaccine production, €62 million for retrofitting the Kpong Dam and €370 million will be utilized for development in cities in Northern Ghana.While speaking Europe Day Reception in Accra, the Ambassador disclosed the EU's interest in Ghana's priorities, particularly in youth empowerment, trade, security and climate resilience.Europe Day celebration is organized annually bringing together Diplomatic Corps, government dignitaries, private sector leaders, civil society actors, and media professionals.Through the Global Gateway initiative, hundreds of infrastructure projects with investments with support for regulatory standards, technology sharing and expertise, all aimed at strengthening the economic resilience of partner countries such as Ghana.The initiative is being spearheaded by the Team Europe mobilizing all EU institutions, Member States, their Development Financial Institutions, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the EBRD and the European private sector. He said, “The EU remains a credible, reliable and dependable partner to Ghana. In these turbulent times, it is ever more important to collaborate with like-minded friends and allies. We are here to stay.”
