Christian Eriksen is preparing to leave Manchester United at the end of the season and does not expect to join another club in the Premier League.

The 33-year-old Danish midfielder signed with United on a free transfer in July 2022, following a brief stint at Brentford. This move came after he made a remarkable return to football, having suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

Since joining United, Eriksen has played 66 Premier League games, but his role has been significantly reduced this season, with only 16 league appearances.

With his contract set to expire in the summer, Eriksen has confirmed that there have been no talks about an extension.

“I haven’t heard anything from the club, and therefore I assume that the collaboration will stop – that’s how I interpret it,” said the Dane.

“I am prepared to find something new. I am fine with that. Where it will be, I haven’t decided yet.”

Eriksen began his football career at Ajax before spending seven years at Tottenham Hotspur.

Before he signed with Manchester United, Spurs had shown interest in re-signing him. He also had a spell at Inter Milan before making his move to Old Trafford.

“The intention is not to stay in England,” added Eriksen.

“I am not going to the USA – we are not going that far. We would like to stay in Europe, but it is too early to go home to Denmark.

“I feel like I have some good years abroad left.”
