2 mins readThe Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment has officially inaugurated two technical working groups to oversee the implementation of its flagship employment initiatives—the Adwumawura Programme and the National Apprenticeship Programme.

The 12-member Adwumawura Technical Working Group and the 14-member National Apprenticeship Technical Working Group have been tasked with ensuring the effective rollout of these initiatives, aimed at creating sustainable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young Ghanaians.

At the inauguration ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, March 19, Minister George Opare Addo urged the committees to fast-track the implementation of these programmes to address the growing challenge of youth unemployment. He also directed them to submit a detailed report on their progress within two weeks.

“This Adwumawura programme aims to empower 10,000 Ghanaians every year between the ages of 18 and 35 and to also help them launch their businesses, effectively lowering the employment rate among our young people. Through this programme, we are committed to contributing with the necessary support, in terms of training, financing, and special opportunities to make young entrepreneurs realize their dreams,” Opare Addo stated.

Several development partners have been enlisted to support the initiatives, including the MasterCard Foundation, Canadian High Commission, KOICA, JICA, AGRA, GIZ, European Union, World Bank, African Development Bank, International Labour Organization, International Organization for Migration, and the World Health Organization.

With the inauguration of these committees, the government aims to strengthen efforts in equipping young people with the skills and resources necessary to secure meaningful employment and drive economic growth.
