The fire, known as the Eaton Fire, swept through areas east of Los Angeles, destroying homes and forcing many residents in Altadena and Pasadena to evacuate.

Curry's granddaughter confirmed the news of her death in a touching post on Facebook. She shared that she had last seen her grandmother on Tuesday, January 7, when she dropped her off at her Altadena home. Later that same day, the wildfire broke out, causing widespread damage in the area.
