A total of 1,568 newly qualified lawyers have been formally inducted into the Ghana Bar by the General Legal Council at a ceremony held at the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Teshie, Accra on Friday, October 9.
Among the distinguished individuals embarking on their legal careers are the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George; the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso; and Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, MP for Awutu Senya East (Kasoa).
Also, Umaru Sanda Amadu, a broadcast journalist with Channel One TV and Citi FM; Naa Ashorkor Duodu, a media personality and TV3 presenter with Media General; and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim have also been called to the Bar. Scores of Ghanaians have extended their congratulatory the newly qualified lawyers, celebrating their achievement and wishing them success as they begin their legal careers.
The Ghana Bar welcomed eight hundred and twenty-four ( 824) newly qualified lawyers in a grand ceremony on Friday, October 10 at the Accra International Conference Centre last year.
Dignitaries including Supreme Court Justice Avril Lovelace-Johnson, Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine, Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, Director of Legal Education Prof Raymond Atuguba, and Ghana Bar Association President Efua Ghartey were spotted during the ceremony.
Among the new lawyers are journalists and media professionals. They include Emmanuel Ebo Hawkson of Graphic Online, Serwaa Amihere of the EIB Network, Joseph Ackah-Blay of Media General, Sixtus Don-Ullo of 3News, and Yvonne Asare-Offei of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
Also joining the legal profession six persons with disabilities and a Chinese-born entrepreneur based in Kumasi, Paul Chen.
The General Legal Council is in the process of enrolling new lawyers as members of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) for the year 2023/2024.
Among the distinguished individuals embarking on their legal careers are the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Ghana, Sammi Awuku, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.
