Ghanaian politician Hopeson Adorye has openly endorsed polygamy, stating that men should have the freedom to marry multiple wives. He argued that ordinance marriages, which legally bind men to one wife, place unnecessary restrictions on them.

During a live TikTok session hosted by his wife, gospel musician Empress Gifty, Adorye was asked about the ideal type of marriage for a man. In response, he emphasized that customary marriage, which allows a man to have more than one wife, is preferable.

"Single men shouldn't engage in ordinance marriages that prevent them from having more than one wife," he stated.

He further noted that many women miss out on financial stability because they refuse to be second wives.

"There is a mistake many women make. When they meet a man who is wealthy and capable of taking care of them, they reject his proposal because they don’t want to be a second wife, and instead choose a poor man," he explained.

When asked by Empress Gifty if he would personally marry another wife, Adorye admitted that he supports polygamy but is unable to practice it due to his current marriage contract.

"The Bible supports second marriages, and I support it. However, because my marriage with you is an ordinance, I can’t marry a second wife," he revealed.

His remarks have since sparked discussions on marriage choices and whether men should reconsider entering ordinance marriages if they desire multiple wives.
