The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study.
In a notice, shared on the school's official Facebook page on Thursday, October 23, the Academic Affairs Directorate said the decision was in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the requirements for academic progression.
Under the regulation, students must obtain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy their respective School or Departmental requirements to progress to the next academic level.
The university stressed that there is no provision for probation under the regulation, meaning students who fall below the required CGPA after all grades for their registered courses have been released will not be in good academic standing and will be required to withdraw.
Affected students have been advised to check their CGPAs on the university's Management Information System (MIS) Web and log in to the STS Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN to select the “Withdrawal Request” option and begin the process.
However, the university noted that for some programmes, the relevant School or Department will initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.
Students who require further clarification have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
The Careers and Counselling Directorate is also available to provide support and guidance to students who may need assistance.
