Nigeria names Eric Chelle as new Super Eagles coach

Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has named Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

Chelle, who previously coached Mali, replaces Augustine Eguavoen, who had been temporarily in charge after Finidi George left the position.

The NFF stated that Chelle's main objective is to lead the team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"The responsibility of guiding the Super Eagles to earn a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals," the NFF stated.

The statement did not mention how long Eric Chelle's contract will last.

At 47, Chelle started his coaching career in 2016, and Nigeria is only the second national team he has managed, after his time with Mali.

His most notable achievement was leading Mali to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
