A recent image circulating on social media shows damage to part of President Akufo-Addo's statue located at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
It remains unclear who is responsible for the act, whether an individual or group.
The statue was unveiled by President Akufo-Addo on November 6 during his one-day “thank you” tour of the Western Region.
Following its unveiling, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, stated that the monument was erected to honor the President’s contributions to the region.
However, the statue has sparked controversy among residents and members of the public, many of whom have expressed displeasure and called for its removal.
Amid the backlash, a member of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Council, Nana Hima Dekyi XIV, disclosed that the statue was funded through voluntary contributions from chiefs in the region.
In an interview with Accra-based TV3, he revealed that the monument, which was intended to celebrate the President’s role in the region’s development, cost approximately GH₵30,000.
