Spain's midfielder Rodri has criticized Morocco's strategy ahead of their 2022 World Cup matchup against them on Tuesday in Qatar.
After 120 minutes, there was no way to separate the two teams, and Spain's three penalties—two of which were beautifully saved by goalie Bounou—were all missed.
That left Hakimi to seal the victory for the North Africans with his fearless penalty kick and ignite joyful scenes in the stadium's stands.
"Morocco offered absolutely nothing. Without disrespecting them. In the game, they did nothing," Rodri said after the game.
"They just waited for the counters. They stayed behind and tried to counter us!"
Spain were also knocked out of Euro 2020 on penalties in the semifinals by Italy.
Morocco are the last African side following the exit of African champions Senegal, Ghana, Tunisia and Cameroon.
Coach Walid Regragui's side are also only remaining Arab team left in the tournament and will face Portugal in the quarterfinals in Qatar.
