Boxing enthusiast and manager of Med Sports TV has praised Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy Macbones and reigning national super middleweight champion Jonathan “Worldwide” Tetteh for what he described as an exceptional performance, saying both fighters exceeded his expectations.
Speaking to The Independent Ghana on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the University Ghana Sports Stadium, Med said some of the fights had not lived up to expectations, especially on the undercard, but noted that the main event had been so far so good.
"Freezy Macbones versus Jonathan “Worldwide” was the most talked-about local fight, and I think both of them performed beyond my expectations, per their backgrounds. I think they both performed beyond my expectations, especially Freezy. I was having doubts if Freezy could go all the rounds with Worldwide, per the experience of "Worldwide".
Freezy may have turned pro before "Worldwide", but Worldwide has a rich amateur background. He has fought at top international amateur tournaments, and he has sparred Freezy many times and he has had the best of Freezy, inspiring. In those sessions, Worldwide often had the better of Freezy. But today, I think Freezy has given a better account of himself than when they were sparring about a year or two ago," he expressed.
Med also commended Sharaf Mahama, owner of Legacy Rise, for his efforts to revive boxing in Ghana, describing the initiative as one with strong social impact.
“When you look at what he is doing, what change is he bringing to boxing in Ghana? One thing people don’t know is that boxing is meant to take people off the streets, and by giving them opportunities, he is going to take a lot of people off the streets. We have had Ghanaian boxers who were once armed robbers, and boxing saved their lives,” he said.
He applauded boxers who have really put their lives on the line for "our entertainment and kudos to every boxer who stepped into the squared circle."
The University of Ghana Sports Stadium, also known as Legon Sports Stadium, hosted one of the biggest boxing spectacles in recent Ghanaian history.
The event was co-promoted by Matchroom Boxing, Legacy Rise Sports, and 258BXG, marking Matchroom’s first-ever boxing event in Africa and a landmark moment for the sport on the continent.
The show was headlined by a high-profile light-heavyweight clash between British fighters Craig “Spider” Richards and Dan “Super” Azeez, with Richards winning by a dramatic knockout in the 12th round. The bout was broadcast live worldwide on DAZN, adding global exposure to the event.
Alongside international names, the card featured several Ghanaian prospects and local attractions, including the much-talked-about bout between Freezy Macbones and “Worldwide”. Other domestic talents like Theophilus Allotey and other rising boxers also featured on the undercard, showcasing Ghana’s growing pool of boxing talent.
The capacity crowd enjoyed an electrifying atmosphere, blending world-class boxing with cultural celebration. The event was seen as a major move toward reviving and elevating the sport of boxing in Ghana, giving local fighters international exposure and attracting fans from across the country.
Tickets and broadcasting rights were widely covered, with local broadcasters securing rights and the global stream on DAZN ensuring fans around the world could watch the historic card.
In all, the Legon Sports Stadium show was a turning point for Ghanaian boxing, blending international competition with local flair and putting Ghana firmly on the global boxing map.
