The possibility of a contract extension for U.S. men's national team midfielder Weston McKennie at Juventus largely depends on his upcoming performances, as reported by Calciomercato.

McKennie, who is 25 years old, hasn't consistently been a starter at the Allianz Stadium and spent last season on loan at Leeds United, where he made 19 Premier League appearances as the club unfortunately faced relegation. Initially, it was anticipated that the former FC Dallas and Schalke 04 midfielders would once again leave Juventus during the summer transfer window, but no such move materialised.

Instead, McKennie has been part of Juventus' starting lineup in all four of their opening games this season. He began the most recent two matches and even provided an assist in their 3-1 victory over Lazio.

McKennie's existing contract is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2025. As Juventus has not yet committed to extending his stay beyond that period, he is now focused on impressing manager Massimiliano Allegri to secure another contract.

Earlier this month, McKennie acknowledged that transitioning back to Juventus from Leeds was challenging, but he is determined to demonstrate his value to the team.

"Coming back to Juventus wasn't easy," he said during USMNT camp. "I left the club at a time of crisis, I guess you could say. And so coming back, I felt like I started back at square zero, but that is a challenge I'm always up for, a challenge that I think I needed at this time in my career to kind of prove to people that I still have it."

With Paul Pogba's future uncertain after doping charges, there is now an opportunity for McKennie to establish himself in Allegri's lineup, which the American is currently taking.

Juventus' next match—and McKennie's next opportunity to impress—comes against Sassuolo on Saturday, with the club having lost three of their four Serie A matches this season.
