Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has charged party members to confront and resolve the issues that contributed to their defeat in the last general elections.
Speaking during a meeting with supporters and executives from five constituencies in the Bono East Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the party’s future success hinges on a united and proactive front. He called on members to collectively reflect on the setbacks and adopt a renewed sense of purpose.
“The NPP belongs to all of us, and we need to address everything that went wrong in the electioneering,” Dr. Bawumia said during the engagement, which brought together members from Atebubu-Amantin, Sene East, Sene West, Pru East, and Pru West constituencies.
As part of his ongoing “Thank You Tour,” Dr. Bawumia visited Atebubu last Friday, where he urged the party’s base — from polling station executives to the council of elders — to remain solid and determined in the face of setbacks.
He expressed optimism about the NPP's chances in the 2028 elections but warned that achieving victory would require a coordinated effort among all party structures. “We must remain formidable and resolute,” he said, underscoring the need for stronger collaboration and communication among constituency executives, electoral coordinators, patrons, and grassroots members.
In a conciliatory tone, Dr. Bawumia extended an apology to party members who felt sidelined or mistreated during the previous campaign cycle. He stressed the importance of healing rifts and moving forward in unity: “We need to forgive each other’s offences and forge ahead in unity.”
Accompanying Dr. Bawumia were several key party figures, including Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul; Dr. Gideon Boako, MP for Tano North; and NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.
Also present were Mr. Masawudu Osman, the party’s National Third Vice Chairman; Nana Akomea, a former NPP National Communications Director; and Dr. Anyass Ibrahim, former CEO of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) programme.
