The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools were registered for this year’s examination, made up of 225,270 males and 287,592 females.

The number of candidates increased by 11.07 per cent compared to the 461,736 candidates recorded for the 2025 examination.

However, 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98 per cent, were absent from the examination, according to WAEC.

In a statement dated September 4, the Council said the provisional results have been made available online. Heads of schools will receive login details to access the results of their candidates.

Candidates who want to check their individual results can also do so through the WAEC Ghana website.

Performance in core subjectsIn English Language, 315,094 candidates, representing 62.40 per cent, obtained grades from A1 to C6.

For Core Mathematics, 306,234 candidates, representing 60.75 per cent, recorded grades between A1 and C6.

A total of 309,605 candidates, representing 62.08 per cent, obtained A1 to C6 in Integrated Science.

Social Studies recorded the strongest performance among the four core subjects, with 393,918 candidates, representing 78.04 per cent, obtaining grades between A1 and C6.

On the other hand, 55,940 candidates, representing 11.08 per cent, received an F9 in English Language.

Core Mathematics recorded 74,692 F9 grades, representing 14.82 per cent, while 76,136 candidates, representing 15.27 per cent, obtained F9 in Integrated Science.

In Social Studies, 39,416 candidates, representing 7.81 per cent, received an F9.WAEC warns against fraudstersWAEC has also cautioned candidates and the general public to be wary of fraudsters who may promise to upgrade examination results in exchange for money.

The Council said its results are secure and can be verified through its official results verification system.

It added that candidates and institutions can also use the QR code provided by WAEC to authenticate examination results.
