1 min readThe Teachers and Education Workers Union of TUC (TEWU-TUC) and the Senior Staff Association, Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), has embarked an indefinite strike at the University of Ghana, Korle Bu Campus, on December 22. The strike is a response to prolonged delays in the payment of arrears of the Interim Hospital Market Premium to eligible staff.

In a statement released by the associations, it was explained that the decision to go on strike was prompted by the university's failure to address the outstanding arrears covering the period from 2010 to 2018 despite numerous attempts.

As a result of the strike, several services have been withdrawn, including the processing of student admissions and graduations, medical services, security, dental care, laboratory facilities, hostel accommodations, mortuary services, laborers, cleaners, maintenance, and estate management.

The industrial action is a measure taken by the unions to draw attention to the unresolved payment issues and to put pressure on the university management to address the concerns of the staff.DOC-20231222-WA0034Download
