1 min readThe Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) in Accra has been temporarily shut down for preparations related to the commencement of commercial operations. The closure, effective from midnight on Friday, July 7, 2023, will extend until Tuesday, July 11, 2023. The Acting Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Mr. Edward Quao, announced this decision in a statement issued on July 7.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we are committed to delivering a remarkable experience that exceeds the expectation of the community and visitors,” the acting Director added in a statement.At a cost of $3.5 million, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, which houses the remains of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah, has undergone extensive refurbishment.

The park is situated on the former polo grounds where Ghana's independence was declared. On July 4, 2023, President Nana Akufo-Addo officially inaugurated the revamped park.President Akufo-Addo expressed his optimism that the redeveloped park would attract approximately one million visitors each year, both from Ghana and abroad.
