Alhaji Abdul Karim Gruzah, a seasoned football administrator, was a victim of theft during the 'Save Ghana Football' demonstration held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, according to reports.
This unfortunate incident was brought to light by renowned broadcaster Dan Kwaku Yeboah during the February 15, 2024, edition of Peace FM's Kokrokoo program.
According to Yeboah, he became aware of the theft after speaking with Alhaji Gruzah following the demonstration, which reportedly saw the participation of over 3000 individuals.
Both Kwaku Yeboah and Kwami Sefa Kayi commended Alhaji Gruzah, the organisers, and the numerous Ghanaians who attended the demonstration.
“Alhaji Gruzah came clad in all-white while we were in black. His reason was that while we were frustrated, he was happy with our decision to register our frustrations and call the authorities to order.
I was having a conversation with him after the demonstration, and he told me someone had stolen his money. While the young men were praising him, some dipped their hands into his pocket and picked up the money,” Kwaku Yeboah said.
Kwaku Yeboah expressed admiration for the organisers of the demonstration, hailing it as a groundbreaking event in the sports industry.
He noted that history will likely remember them as the first Ghanaians to orchestrate such a large-scale protest concerning sports matters.
The demonstration attracted thousands of football enthusiasts who demanded extensive reforms and a restructuring of Ghana's football system.
Protesters called for urgent action from authorities, citing concerns about the mismanagement and perceived corruption within the system, which they believe is causing talented Ghanaian footballers to languish.
Following their march from Obra Spot, the demonstration leaders submitted a petition to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Parliament, and the Ghana Football Association.
