Following the completion of the vetting of aspirants, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to conduct balloting on Wednesday, September 9, ahead of its 2026 National Officers’ Election.

The balloting exercise will be held at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra, allowing contestants to determine their positions on the ballot paper ahead of the election. The party has therefore directed all aspirants to attend the exercise or appoint authorised representatives to represent them.

The filing process was closed on Saturday, August 29, paving way for the vetting stage, which began on Monday, August 31 and ended on Thursday, September 3. Fifty (50) individuals had previously expressed interest in contesting the election; however, three of them dropped out for failing to complete the filing process.

The 47 aspirants are contesting nine categories of national officer positions, namely National Chairman, National Vice-Chairperson, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Nasara (Zongo) Organiser and National Communications Director.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the National Officers’ Elections Committee, Frederick Opare-Ansah, all 47 aspirants who appeared before the committee satisfied the requirements to contest the elections.

The National Vice-Chairperson race recorded the highest number of aspirants, with 13 candidates cleared. This was followed by the National Organiser position, which has eight candidates.

Six aspirants were cleared for the National Youth Organiser position, while five qualified to contest the National Nasara Organiser race.The positions of National Chairman, General Secretary and National Treasurer each have four aspirants cleared to contest.

Two candidates were cleared for the National Women’s Organiser position, while only one aspirant was cleared for the National Communications Director position.

With the vetting now completed, the NPP is scheduled to hold balloting on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

The National Officers Elections Committee thanked the vetting committee, the aspirants and the public for their cooperation throughout the process.

It also assured that the remaining stages of the elections would be carried out transparently and credibly, with efforts to preserve unity within the party.
