1 min readPresident John Dramani Mahama has reassigned the newly appointed Registrar of the Births & Deaths Registry, Samuel Adom Botchway, in response to a nationwide strike threat by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG),

CLOGSAG announced on February 13, 2025, that it would launch the strike on February 20, 2025, protesting Botchway’s appointment. The association argued that Botchway’s political ties made him unfit for the position.

Isaac Bampoe Addo, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, explained that the decision was made during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on February 11, 2025.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare a nationwide strike,” Addo said.

In response to the looming industrial action, President Mahama has acted swiftly by reassigning Botchway. A statement from the presidency emphasized the government’s commitment to being a listening administration.

"Newly appointed Registrar of Births & Deaths Registry, Samuel Adom Botchway, to be reassigned following CLOGSAG's announcement of a strike," the statement read.

This move comes as part of the Mahama administration’s attempt to resolve the situation while maintaining peace and stability within government operations.
