2 mins readActor and politician, John Dumelo has revealed the factors contributing to his loss in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary elections in 2020.During an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM, Mr Dumelo attributed his defeat to several setbacks encountered during the campaign.One significant challenge he highlighted was the absence of students from various tertiary institutions in the constituency, which adversely affected his voter turnout.

Dumelo emphasized that the presence of students could have boosted his performance in the election.“I think the first one was that we went door to door, but we didn't go everywhere. The second one was that the students were not on campus, i.e., in 2020. And so that's how we lost. The third one was that we had a few mishaps during the election period, which I cannot say now, but those are the lessons," he said.

Additionally, he acknowledged that his campaign team's failure to conduct a thorough door-to-door outreach prevented them from reaching a significant portion of constituents and securing their support.Reflecting on the lessons learned, Dumelo expressed determination to employ a more strategic approach in the forthcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

He emphasized the importance of working smarter rather than harder, leveraging the strengths and weaknesses of opponents to his advantage.Dumelo assured that he and his team have identified the shortcomings of their previous campaign and are committed to rectifying them to secure victory in 2024.

“The last time I was telling somebody that this time around, we are not working hard, but we are working smart, We need to be able to look at the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents and use that for ourselves. So I think we've learned so many lessons. We've dotted our I's and crossed our t's, and we know why we lost, and we know how we can win in 2024.

”In the upcoming elections, Dumelo will contest against the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
