Former President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to participate as a model at the upcoming Ghana Fashion Week scheduled for July.
During the Black Star Experience launch held in Accra on May 1, 2025, Mahama, who is widely known for his love of locally made clothing, expressed his dedication to supporting the nation’s fashion industry.
“In July, when Ghana Fashion Week takes place, I will confidently walk the runway myself,” he stated.
He went on to share that he intends to showcase three different outfits during his appearance, each designed by a Ghanaian fashion creative.
“I consistently wear Ghana-made outfits, and all my political suits are tailored by local designers. This initiative reflects our reality and shared identity,” he said.
“On that day, I’ll make three wardrobe changes on the runway, and each time I step out, I’ll mention the designer behind what I’m wearing,” Mahama added.
About the Black Star Experience
The Black Star Experience is a new program created to celebrate Ghana’s culture, creativity, and business potential through fun activities like fashion shows, music events, and art displays.
It’s designed to attract tourists and showcase the talents of local creatives, helping Ghana stand out as a leading force in African innovation.
One of the main highlights will be Ghana Fashion Week, which will take place over seven days in July, bringing together designers, models, and others in the fashion industry.
President Mahama joining the event is expected to bring a lot of attention and support for the campaign to promote made-in-Ghana products.
