The Ministry of Education has unveiled plans to establish a dedicated Technical and Vocational Education Fund to strengthen support for the sector.
The announcement was made on Monday, May 5, during the inauguration of the governing councils of C.K. Tedam and Tamale Technical Universities.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu explained that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to instill an entrepreneurial mindset in students and enhance practical skills training.
He also revealed that the Ministry is proposing the allocation of 2% of Ghana’s oil revenue to drive the transformation of technical and vocational education nationwide.
“Indeed, I am working very assiduously to get Ghana and the government of President Mahama to establish a technical vocational education fund for the country.
“Indeed, as the president was launching the national apprenticeship programme, I accompanied him and as I sat through and looked through the promise of livelihoods we are likely to change and improve, I was even more convinced that this is the hour for me to pursue the technical vocational education fund,” he said.
