Manchester United's attempt to secure Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton has hit another snag, with the Merseyside club rejecting a second bid of £50 million ($64m) for the defender.
Everton is holding out for closer to £70 million, sources familiar with the negotiations have informed ESPN.
Branthwaite, who made his senior England debut against Bosnia & Herzegovina last season, missed out on Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad despite emerging as one of the Premier League's most promising defensive talents.
United, keen on rebuilding their squad this summer, initially offered £35 million plus £8 million in performance-related add-ons for the former Carlisle player.
Everton swiftly turned down that offer.
Despite recent departures easing Everton's financial burden, including players like Ben Godfrey, Dele Alli, André Gomes, and Lewis Dobbin, the club remains firm on their valuation of Branthwaite at £70 million.
Any transfer deal would also involve a commitment to pay Carlisle 15% of the transfer fee, as stipulated in the agreement when Branthwaite joined Everton from Carlisle in January 2020.
