Over the weekend, the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, was captured on camera promising to deliver “a showdown” to President Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr. Bawumia after his polling agent was allegedly chased into a room by angry delegates.
1
According to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, Kwame Owusu phoned Kennedy Agyapong and provided him false information.
2
In an interview with Metro TV, Chairman Wontumi said: “Something happened in the Northern Region and the people who were there just called Kennedy to tell him, it was specifically my uncle, Kwame Owusu… he called Kennedy and you know at a time like this his energy will be high.” And you are not there but called him to say this what has happened, meanwhile we have police and agents there, so, why do you have to talk?”

But engaging the public in a press briefing on Monday, August 28, Mr Owusu noted that Chairman Wontumi's claims are unfounded as the time he reported at the polling station at the Law Faculty in the Ashanti Region does not correlate with the time Kennedy Agyapong was provided the said information.
4
He explained that Mr Agyapong was informed of the anomaly in the morning whereas Chairman Wontumi arrived at noon.
5
"It has been on social media an interview granted by one Otchere where the Chairman of the Ashanti Region of the NPP, was interviewed and he claims that it is one Owusu, a campaign manager who actually misinformed Ken of the events that were happening in the North East Region, the Region of the Vice President.
6
"I want to put this straight that Chairman Wontumi lied. Honourable Ken's message was captured in the morning and the call was placed to him at 10:39. And from the records, he and the lady spoke for about two and half minutes.
7
"I was an agent at the Ashanti Region, Law faculty. Chairman Wontumi came in there 12'o clock. How could he have heard that I was the one reporting the matter to Hon Ken when even the incident was about an hour before he even came to the premises.
8
It is untrue the records are all there. He is there, telling I am the one who misinformed and the person wasn't even an agent and was there to cause trouble," he said.
9
He added: "Chairman Wontumi, I don't know. I was on the phone with our agent who was there telling him not to sign the pink sheet when all was done on the basis that the elections was supposed to be held outdoor. It was held in door. The happening could not be reported. Nobody was supposed to vote and raising the ballot paper and they were taking place. We had a report from our lady that when she challenged that, she went out and was interviewed by TV3 and was also being chased out, so she had to run away from the place."
10
Meanwhile, Mr Kennedy Agyapong has been summoned before the NPP disciplinary committee to “provide responses and further details to the accusations and threats he made against certain personalities in a video that has since gone viral on social media and mainstream media.”
