1 min readThe Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported a distressing incident involving the collapse of a building onto firefighters while battling a blaze in Westland, West Legon.On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, as fire service personnel were diligently working to extinguish a fierce fire, tragedy struck, resulting in injuries to four firefighters.

In an official press statement released on Thursday, January 25, by Timothy Osafo-Affum, the Director of Public Relations of GNFS, it was revealed that two of the injured officers, currently in critical condition, are undergoing treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre. They were referred from the Medifem hospital.

The other two officers, who sustained minor injuries, received prompt medical attention and have already been discharged.The GNFS has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the building collapse during the firefighting operation. The incident has sparked concerns and calls for a thorough examination to prevent such tragedies in the future.
