Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has acknowledged that it will take a while before the Black Stars gains its form to start winning games again.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Asante Twum indicated that the leadership of the local football governing body was well aware of the challenges the national team is facing and it’s working tirelessly to resolve it.
He cautioned against expecting an immediate turnaround, stressing that rebuilding the team’s fortunes would require patience and commitment.
“It wouldn’t take a day, wouldn’t take a week; it’ll take a lot more effort and a lot of time to get the team back on track,” he said.
“Where we are at this moment, leadership is aware of the challenges that confront us, and efforts are being made to get the team back on track,” he added.
Asante Twum also acknowledged the criticism that often follows poor results, noting that public reactions to the team’s performances are largely influenced by outcomes on the pitch.
“When you win, you’re hailed, but you don’t expect the people to hail you when the results are poor. That’s what leadership must know and accept,” he said.
His comments come at a time when the GFA is facing growing pressure over the Black Stars’ poor performance in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, with many fans calling for answers after Ghana’s disappointing start.
Ghana suffered defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening two Group C games, leaving the four-time African champions with no points and at the bottom of the group.
After missing out on the last AFCON in Morocco, the Black Stars are hoping to secure a place in the 2027 tournament. However, their next two games against Somalia in November could prove crucial to their chances of getting back on track.
With an interim technical team now in charge, Ghana will need to win both matches to boost their points tally and keep their qualification hopes alive.
