Candidates who sat for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the country are set to begin selection of their preferred senior high schools from Monday, July 20 to Friday, August 7, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced.
The Education Authority disclosed this in a formal notice dated July 6th announcing a nationwide training and sensitisation exercise on the 2026 School Selection Guidelines and Placement Procedures.
GES further announced that the school selection process for BECE candidates would commence while the sensitisation exercise is ongoing.
“Please note that the BECE candidates will start selecting their schools from Monday, 20th July to Friday, 7th August, 2026,” it stated.
The statement further invited “Regional and Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education to attend a training and sensitisation exercise on the 2026 School Selection Guidelines and Placement Procedures at their respective Regional Education Offices”.
According to the statement, the exercise is aimed at preparing education directors to effectively supervise the school selection and placement process.
The service noted that the nationwide exercise is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
“This training and sensitisation exercise is intended to provide deeper insight into the selection guidelines and enable you to offer effective oversight throughout the exercise,” the statement said.

The service indicated that a list of participants and a detailed itinerary had been attached to guide the exercise.
“Please find attached the list of participants and detailed itinerary for your attention and guidance,” the statement added.
GES also urged Regional Directors of Education to ensure that all Metro, Municipal and District Directors within their jurisdictions are informed and participate fully in the programme.
“You are kindly requested to communicate this information to all Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education within your jurisdiction and ensure their full participation,” the statement said.
The nationwide training and sensitisation exercise forms part of preparations for the implementation of the 2026 School Selection Guidelines and Placement Procedures across the country.
