Three persons have lost their lives through electrocution following the heavy downpour in the early hours of Monday, June 29.
According to reports, the first two victims were electrocuted when floodwaters inundated rooms in their homes and came into contact with electrical sources.
Residents, alongside a rescue team from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), recovered the bodies from the flooded area and have since sent them to the Maamobi Polyclinic.
After some time, another distress call was made to NADMO, reporting another fatality by electrocution, bringing the total number of flood-related deaths in Alajo to three.
Some reports have suggested a possible fourth casualty, though this has not been independently confirmed.
Alajo is one of the communities worst affected by the heavy rains that began on Sunday night and continued into Monday morning, inundating large parts of Accra and leading to road blockages, among other disruptions.
Following the reports of electrocution, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) temporarily shut down power supply from the Mallam and Achimota primary substations as a precautionary measure following flooding at those facilities, to avert further deaths.
