Ruben Amorim has made it clear to his Manchester United squad that they have no reason to object to criticism from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ratcliffe recently stated in an interview that some United players are "overpaid and not good enough."
Speaking ahead of their crucial Europa League clash against Real Sociedad on Thursday, Amorim was asked about the remarks. Instead of defending his team, he acknowledged the criticism and emphasized that it was up to both the players and coaching staff to prove Ratcliffe wrong.
"I think if we are being honest in this moment everybody, me, all the players are underperforming this season so we can always change that," Amorim told a news conference on Wednesday.
"So I include myself in that part of underperforming. If you are a top player and play in this football and even me -- a lot of people say I am not good enough for the club -- and my feeling is you can change that with results. In training, I feel they want that really bad."
Ratcliffe also highlighted several players whose transfer fees will still be paid this summer.
His list included signings considered disappointing at Old Trafford, such as Jadon Sancho, Antony, Rasmus Højlund, André Onana, and Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s hopes in the Europa League rest on their struggling attack rediscovering its scoring touch."You are talking about players like Casemiro, for example, that won everything and we know that these kinds of players can play so much better," Amorim said. "So that is the focus. He was honest in that.
"The focus is to change his mind and to change all people's minds."
