2 mins readOn a Friday in Accra, the 2023 edition of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards was officially launched.With exciting and innovative initiatives planned to entertain Ghanaians and honour DJs, this year's event has some fresh and exciting twists to increase excitement and participation.

These activities encompass regional and campus roadshows, educational and empowerment workshops, the Smirnoff Ice Dome – a remarkable event taking place across different university campuses, showcasing Campus DJs and offering other interactive chances for engagement.Stella Gyimaah Larbi, the Executive Secretary of Merqury Republic, spoke at the event and mentioned that Guinness Ghana, a brewery, has joined as a partner this year.

She emphasised the significance of the partnership by announcing that it will last for three years. She pointed out that this is a sizable investment in Ghana's music and creative industries.

“Over the years, Africa’s DJ scene has seen remarkable growth and has been at the forefront of promoting Africa’s diverse music scene bringing to the fore the ingenuity and creativity of our music talents while promoting our music and culture.”“Despite the sector’s extensive contributions to the growth of Africa’s creative, music and entertainment industry, DJs have not received the attention and recognition they deserved.

Thus, the Ghana DJ Awards was initiated by astute Ghanaian DJ, Merqury Quaye and was launched to celebrate DJs, provide support, nurture, and unlock the immense and untapped potentials of the sector.”“We are happy that Guinness Ghana has partnered with us to take the Ghana DJ Awards to further heights.

We think that one way we can do this is by helping Ghana's DJ industry, which has over the years gotten very little to no attention.We are excited to celebrate and honour DJs' contributions to the entertainment industry and beyond through this partnership. The promotion of inclusion and diversity within the industry, along with spotting and developing the talents of aspiring DJs, is crucial to us at Guinness Ghana, she continued.

Through the collaboration, Guinness Ghana will give DJs the tools they need to succeed at the annual DJ Clinic and capacity-building workshops, empowering campus DJs to discover and use their talents through the campus DJ challenge. There will also be Regional and Campus roadshows among others.
