We need to work against the stubborn spirit of cynicism, unbridled and unguarded scepticism, especially towards the generality of the political class. No two persons are ever the same. No two situations, conditions or issues are ever the same.

We must learn to treat and regard persons on their merits. Ghana may be suffering from inconsistent, deceptive and shortsighted, election-focused politicians, but there may be their opposite kind also.

We must learn to appreciate those who choose to be on the side of the masses. We need to engage better to know better. We must be guided by lessons of history and experience. We should look for quality and not mere numbers. We must work together in love, compassion and magnanimity. We must be measured and considerate. We must learn to be tolerant, accommodating and forgiving.

Life is so short. So soon life ends, and it is when the hands are folded upon the pulseless breast that we begin to think, wail and wonder.

When the voice is silenced from the lifeless body of the dedicated and devoted, then we yearn to listen but hear not. When silenced, the voice of warning, encouragement, hope and inspiration reenacts itself silently; then the obdurate may be aroused but rather too late.

Let us give hope a chance. There are many a politician who have not bowed to the enslavement of avarice, greed, cupidity, deception, hatred and sheer wickedness.

We can find among us sincere, honest, loving, forward-looking and God-fearing men and women across the broad spectrum of our national life. Let us look out for and embrace them. They would do us good.

Let the search begin. God bless our homeland, Ghana and make our nation great and strong.
